Book Review: The Prisoner by Kiersten Modglin

My Review:

This is the 4th and final book in ‘The Messes’ series. Unlike the first three books you cannot read this as a standalone. You need to read books one to three first. But you will not regret reading them all.

This is another 5 star read by this author. What an epic, emotional conclusion to this amazing series! I have loved every intense minute of Fiona and Logan!

This is Fiona/Gia’s book. I really did not like her at all. But, her story broke my heart, made me sympathize with her and understand what and where her actions result from.

**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**

Blog Tour: Love Under Contract by Sharon C. Cooper + Giveaway

Love Under Contract
Jenkins and Sons Construction Series Book 1
by Sharon C. Cooper
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Timing is everything.

Sumeera Robinson refuses to settle for less than she desires, even if what she craves is the sexy, smart, and charming Nicolas Jenkins-Moore. At her age, she wants marriage and a family, not the empty promises Nick offers. Yet, there is just something about the man that makes moving on nearly impossible.

As the new senior manager of Jenkins & Sons Construction, Nick’s five-year plan is on track with marriage and starting a family at the bottom of the list. Sumeera is as beautiful inside as she is on the outside, but not even she can entice him to abandon his carefully plotted road to success. That is until she walks away without looking back, leaving him yearning for her presence in his life.

Nick is determined to convince Sumeera that he wants the same things she wants. But will an unexpected development keep them from the life they desire? Or will fate bring them closer than they’ve ever been before?

**only .99 cents!!**

Sumeera dropped her compact back into her purse as a loud rumbling motor sounded outside. She went back to the window and tilted the aluminum slat of the blinds down, willing herself to remain calm when she spotted Nick’s truck. There was a time in her life when she’d only been attracted to a man in a suit and tie, clean shaven, with a runner’s body. But nothing about Nicholas Jenkins-Moore resembled that picture.
Just over six-feet tall with dark soulful eyes and skin the color of toasted almonds, Nick, a sheet metal worker by trade, ran one of the largest construction companies in Cincinnati. Her heart pounded against her ribcage as she observed him standing behind his truck taking in his surroundings. He reminded her of a poster boy for everything rugged and powerful.
She wasn’t sure why he parked on the street instead of in the driveway, but it gave her a chance to admire him from a distance. He wore a dark wool cap pulled down low and sunglasses shielded his eyes. Even in his work coat, one could tell he had wide shoulders and a broad chest. His tree-trunk-like legs were encased in his customary blue jeans and dusty steel-toe boots covered his feet.
Sumeera remained rooted in place as desire hummed through her veins while she watched him. His long, easy gait carrying him up the driveway toward the house. With a diamond stud earring in each ear, his sexy goatee and tattoos that she knew covered his forearms beneath his coat, he was everything her prim and proper mother would disapprove of. Yet, Sumeera was crazy in love with the man. Hence, her biggest problem at the moment.
She and Nick had dated for seven months until she made the mistake of falling in love with him. It was a mistake because he had made it clear up front that he wasn’t looking for a serious commitment. Like so many women, Sumeera thought she could change him. Didn’t happen. Then she thought she could handle being in a relationship without knowing if it would amount to marriage, but quickly realized she couldn’t handle that either. And she definitely didn’t want to end up like her mother. Mona had stayed with Russell, who promised marriage, but thirty-five years later he was still making promises and they still weren’t married. That’s why Sumeera had put some distance between herself and Nick. She wanted a different life than her mother’s.
Sumeera stepped away from the window and closed her eyes, willing away the slight headache trying to creep in. She knew her constant tiredness and the random headaches were from working more than she’d been sleeping, and lately she’d been paying for it.
Nick rang the doorbell, and Sumeera opened her eyes. She wiggled her shoulders to relieve some tension, then ran her fingers through her hair hoping it looked alright.
“Okay. I’m ready.” She exhaled before opening the door. But no amount of preparation could have readied her for coming face to face with the man she’d dreamed about during many lonely nights over the last few weeks.
Nick removed his shades, placing them in the top pocket of his jacket that rested over his heart. She swallowed hard when their gazes collided. He studied her for what felt like hours. His sexy brown eyes scrutinized, doing a slow crawl down her body, and then back up again. Heat consumed her, making her want to fan herself, but she didn’t move.
“Hello, Sumeera.” His rich, deep voice washed over her like a gentle breeze, nipping at her skin, and her heart rate inched higher. His cologne, a woodsy scent, brought back memories of romantic nights and happier times. She hadn’t seen him in a month and a half, but there hadn’t been a day that went by that she didn’t think of him.

Book Review: Perfect Holiday by Cathy Johns

My Review:

This story was part of the Anthology 25 Days of Christmas. This is Zoey and Blake's story.

This book had me from the first page to the last. I couldn't put it down. It was short and sweet. I love the chemistry between the two characters.

It was very well written. I highly recommend this short and sweet read.

Book Review: The Liar by Kiersten Modglin

My Review:

Another awesome book for this series. I loved the other books in this series, so I was looking forward to this book.

This is a story about Fletcher and Vaida. They are both broken souls who are trying to survive from both their past, and future. This is an emotional ride you don't want to miss.

There were also quite a few twist and turns in this book and they had such a big impact. I didn't see some of them coming as well.

Fletcher meets Vaida when she starts working at the diner he works at, Fletcher wants to get to know Vaida, while Vaida just wants to do her job and not get noticed. When Fletcher gets an unexpected call from his brother Vaida decides to help him and they go to Fletcher's home town. These two have more in common than they truly realize and are bond and be there for each other.

Vaida was the main female character, and in this book she was keeping a big secret and her secret actually made my heart break for her. She also just wanted to be free and to be in control of her life. She was treated horribly, but she came a long way in this book and did what she had to do.

Fletcher was the main male character, and he was in the first book in this series. He was also keeping a big secret in this book, but he was more open with Vaida and actually told her quite quickly. Fletcher then just wanted to know Vaida and help her when she needed it! He definitely got more than he bargained for when it came to Vaida's secret, but he supported her.

I've enjoyed this series and after the ending to The Liar, I look forward to the last book 'The Prisoner' in the series even more now. The title of this book suits it perfectly as well.

Book Review: Not the Same by Gianna Gabriela

My Review:

Another awesome read by this author. I read this in on sitting.

This is Aron’s story. The things he has to go through as a teenager are rough and no kid or teen should have to but unfortunately they do.

Son of a drug dealer and alcoholic, Aron has spent his life trying to be a parent for his younger brother, Ethan whilst struggling to stay at school.

This book makes us understand why Aron is the person that wanted to help and protect in Not the Same (book #1).

I highly recommend this book.

Blog Tour: The Holiday Home Hotel by Lou Sylvre + Giveway

The Holiday Home Hotel
by Lou Sylvre
Genre: M/M Supernatural Romance

Daren Novak and Gunny Schuler have known each other since freshmen days at the University of Washington, where they'd started a romance Daren assumed would last. But at the start of winter break, Gunny bowed to the dictates of his lifelong religion and his overbearing father and left UW never to return.

After a failed marriage, Gunny built a quiet life embracing his gay identity, and left his North Dakota home, his marriage, and his father's business for a forestry and teaching career in Oregon. Meanwhile, Daren has built up his own life around managing a unique holiday venue, the Holiday Home Hotel, and performing for the guests in drag as "Dare."

A decade has passed since they last saw each other, but now winter’s harsh weather brings them face to face—helped along by a minor goddess and powerful forest spirit. Too much hurt might lie between them now to fix things, but interfering supernatural beings are determined to force them to try.

Lou Sylvre loves romance with all its ups and downs, and she likes to conjure it into books. The sweethearts on her pages are men who end up loving each other, and sometimes saving each other from unspeakable danger. It’s all pretty crazy and very sexy. As if you'd want to know more, she’ll happily tell you that she is a proudly bisexual woman, a mother, grandmother, lover of languages, and cat-herder. She works closely with lead cat and writing assistant, the (male) Queen of Budapest, Boudreau St. Clair. She is the author of the six well-loved books of the Vasquez and James Series and holiday favorites, Falling Snow on Snow and The Holiday Home Hotel. She teamed up with Kiwi author Anne Barwell to write Sunset at Pencarrow, an adventurous tale of New Zealand romance.

Blog Tour: Eric Beckman Mysteries by Al Macy + Giveaway

A Mind Reader's Christmas
Eric Beckman Mysteries Book 4
by Al Macy
Genre: Paranormal Cozy Mystery

Eric Beckman, a mind-reading private investigator, is spending Christmas in snowy Vermont with his wife and daughter. He needs a break from solving cases, but the townspeople convince him to look into the village mystery: Every holiday season, someone switches the baby Jesus with one of the other figures in the town’s nativity scene.

With the help of his ten-year-old daughter, also a mind reader, he soon learns that some of the residents of the small town are not who—or even what—they seem to be. There’s something supernatural going on in Newburn, Vermont.

His investigation causes an escalation of strange happenings, and soon, swapped manger figures are the least of the town’s worries. If Beckman can’t adjust his view of the world—force himself to believe in things he never thought possible—the Christmas vacation could turn out to be his family’s last.

A Mind Reader’s Christmas may be read as a standalone book or as Book Four in the Eric Beckman series.

Democracy's Thief
Eric Beckman Mysteries Book 3

Private Investigator Eric Beckman hates politics. He doesn’t even watch the news—it’s just sensationalized stories crafted to sell commercials. Why should he care?
But that changes when a friend is shot in the head during a politically motivated break-in. Eric starts digging, and using his paranormal mind-reading skills, he soon discovers that Wilson Kingman, the presidential candidate behind the burglary, has some supernatural skills of his own. With one sweep of his mesmerizing gaze, he's able to secure the fanatical devotion of the thousands who attend his rallies--including the very people investigating him.
Worse, Kingman’s true motivations have nothing to do with leading the free world. With the clock ticking down toward election day, Beckman must overcome his aversion to politics and stop the wrong man from being elected. If he fails, millions will die.
Democracy's Thief is a standalone book which may be enjoyed without reading any of the other books in the series.

Sanity's Thief
Eric Beckman Mysteries Book 2

Private detective Eric Beckman can read minds. He's used to weird cases, but this one may be his most difficult yet. A beloved relative has disappeared into a suspicious psychiatric hospital and Eric has no choice but to go in after her.

Getting in is easy—he knows how to fake insanity. Getting out … not so much.

The asylum's director has some personality issues of his own and is doing more than just treating patients. Now that Eric is one of them, his mind may be headed for a fate worse than death.

His only hope for escape is to work together with the other inmates. But collaborating with schizophrenics has its own challenges, even when he knows what they're thinking. Unless he can get word to the outside, the case could cost him his sanity.

Sanity's Thief is a standalone book and may be understood and enjoyed without reading any of the other books in the series.

Yesterday's Thief
Eric Beckman Mysteries Book 1

Private detective Eric Beckman can read minds.

Although he reads only the conscious thoughts of the people he interviews, it usually gives him enough of an edge to overcome his inexperience as a PI. But mind reading is hell on relationships. Trusting comes hard when you know what people are really thinking.

The case of his life lands in his lap when a beautiful woman materializes during a televised baseball game. She floats in midair, then drops to the ground, comatose.

Beckman is at her bedside when she wakes up. From the moment she opens her eyes, she has him under her spell. He vows to figure out where—or when—she came from, even if it kills him.

The stakes increase when she disappears without a trace. Worse, she holds the key to a worldwide energy catastrophe. If Beckman can’t find her and unlock her secrets, economies will collapse, and the world will spiral down into chaos.

Al Macy writes because he has stories to tell. In school he was the class clown and always the first volunteer for show and tell. His teachers would say “Al has a lot of imagination.” Then they’d roll their eyes.
But he put his storytelling on the back burner until he retired and wrote a blog about his efforts to improve his piano sight-reading. That’s when his love of storytelling burbled up to the surface, along with quirky words like “burble.”
He had even more fun writing his second book, Drive, Ride, Repeat, but was bummed by non-fiction’s need to stick to “the truth” (yucko). From then on it was fiction all the way, with a good dose of his science background burbling to the surface.
Macy’s top priority is compelling storylines with satisfying plot twists, but he never neglects character development. No, wait … his top priority is quirkiness, then compelling storylines, then character development. No, wait …
