My eyes collided with Jaxson’s. He still wore the grin on his face, and just the sight of it made me crack one myself. His grin widened, and he winked. I laughed under my breath, but Kevin still caught us. “What the fuck is so funny?” he asked, frustration clearly evident in his rough voice. “Inside joke,” I responded before Jaxson could. He smirked, which caused Kevin to sigh heavily in defeat. At that moment, Reanna came strolling out of the hallway looking like a model. No wonder it took her this long. She wore a pair of jean shorts and a light pink tank top. Her make-up was done to perfection and she had thrown her hair into a messy bun at the top of her head. “Damn girl….” I said and slid off the barstool. She laughed. “You like it?” “I love it. You are going to help me get ready now, right?” She wrapped her arm around my shoulders. “Yes!” Kevin wasted no time in listening to our conversation and raced down the hall to get whatever Rachel needed . I met Jaxson’s smoldering gaze once more. “Well, guess I’ll see you later…” I said. He nodded, turning his body and placing his back to the door to let us through. “Yup.” I smiled and then let Reanna lead me back out to my car. I saw the look she was giving me when we left, and I prepared myself for whatever she was about to ask. Almost as soon as we got into my car, she turned to me. “Ok, what the heck was that?” I turned the engine over. “What was what?” She rolled her eyes. “Oh, don’t play stupid with me. That!” she pointed up the stairs to Miles’s apartment. “Whatever that was! Don’t think I didn’t miss that smile you threw in Jaxson’s direction.” I laughed before rolling my eyes. “Ok, so I smiled. Who cares?” I was going for nonchalant here and failed miserably if the look on Ray’s face was any indication. We were on the road now, heading back across town to my apartment. “That was not a normal smile. That was Danny’s famous, I secretly want to climb you like a tree smile!” she said. I snorted. “That was not that smile! I do not want Jaxson!” But as soon as the words left my mouth, my mind went straight to him…me…in bed. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought and I did my best to hide it. “Whatever. You totally want him,” Reanna said. I didn’t respond.

EXCERPT

A few minutes later, I’m walking toward Gavin’s bedroom. His door is open. I appreciate the open-door policy, and my anxiety lessens a little bit. A part of me is afraid to wake him up just because I’m awake and aggravated. I stand in the doorway going back and forth in my mind. As I turn away to go back to my room, Gavin faces me.

“Umm. I want…” I am feeling flustered by his gorgeous body. Gavin has the sheets down to his waist, leaving his beautiful torso exposed. His clearly defined chest and abdominal muscles have taken my breath away twice in one day.

Gavin could have asked me what I needed or wanted; instead he just did the next best thing. “Jamie, come on. You can sleep with me,” he said with a sleepy, dreamy smile.

I crawl into his bed as the thunder continues to pound outside the bedroom window. Gavin allows me to get myself into a comfortable posiiton with the pillows situated. I’m not sure if I should move to the edge of the bed, away from him. By no means do I want him to feel like he has to have me in his bed. Gavin immediately takes the choice from me by bringing the back of my body up against his hard chest. He circles his arms around me, and I feel his stubble on my neck. I love a good smelling man, and Gavin doesn’t disappoint. He has the just-got-out-of the-shower vibe going on, and I find it very distracting. I sink my body into his, grateful for the refuge it gives me.

When I climbed into his bed, I wasn’t expecting the intimacy it’s giving me. I lie in bed with Chris all the time after sex, and it doesn’t impact me either way. Lying in bed with Chris is like hanging out with your best friend with benefits. The focus is on the sex and the fun it gives us both. Orgasms are the end goal and nothing else. When it comes to sex, I like to think like a man. We both get what we want, and we go our separate ways. No expectations equals no problems. No one is tying me down. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem being tied up, just not tied down. I can come and go as I please, and fuck anyone else if they don’t like it.

My mind is racing all over the place. Intimacy and Jamie are on opposites ends of the spectrum. When Gavin holds me closer, the instinct to run is stronger than ever.

Jamie, everything is alright,” Gavin says softly in my ear. The anxiety is creeping up to a level that I am nowhere near being comfortable with.

“The storm is too much.” My brittle tone shows I’m on the verge of tears.

“The weather is temperamental here, it should pass shortly.” Gavin lightly kisses my temple. I pull myself into him even more, leaving no distance between us. He allows me this, and a feeling of calm takes over as I drift into a comfortable sleep.
